A work update from Seattle.

I am currently in Seattle - on business. I have been working for Hexcel Corporation for over 4 years in the Marketing and Communications department. One of the responsibilities I have had is preparation for trade shows. This is the first time that I have been able to go and attend a show. I flew into Seattle last night and today I went over the the Washington State Convention Center to observe the building of the booth. It really looks nice. Hexcel makes many products one can find in airplanes - to make them lighter and stronger. Other industries where the materials are used is: wind industry and recreational products (like bikes).
For the last few months I have been helping to coordinate the graphics and display parts. Today, after seeing drawings for the booth and photos of the displays, it was all put together. It was exciting.

The company we used to help design and build the booth, was so organized that there really wasn't much for my boss and I to do (except I did get to unpack the 4 boxes of literature). Tomorrow morning we will go over to the convention center to put out the literature before the show opens for the first day.
In the afternoon, I had some time to walk around downtown Seattle, like I did when I was here a couple months ago...hitting Pike Place market again. They were actually throwing the fish and had a large audience watching and participating. I did pick up some smoked salmon to take back to DH and the boys - as well as a little Father's Day gift for my father (planning ahead).

Well, that is about it for now. I did bring MW with me to stitch on, but was too tired when I got back to the hotel that I had to take a nap before dinner. Maybe I will be able to get in a little stitching tomorrow on the plane.
Hope everyone had a good Monday...take care! Lisa

The week is marching by and my weekend starts now.

Wow, what a first week in 2010. On one hand, I don't remember what I did or didn't do; on the other hand I feel like I have been going...going....going. We went back to our "normal" routine which includes school for the boys, work for DH and I; and the hockey practices Monday-Wednesday. I have been doing just "ok" with some of my goals...I have been ingesting less sugar (haven't totally omitted sugar gum or a little candy yet) and doing my situps/pushups/weights, which has been a focus of mine this week. Little baby steps to change a life style is my motto.

At work, which is something I don't talk about much, I have been getting ready for my boss to visit next week. Strange as it sounds my boss is located in our Duxford England office. We basically communicate by primarily email. I am looking forward to her visit as we are getting ready to start some very fun and exciting projects. In fact, today I was ask to present information about our Website redesign project to our upper manager via a conference call...and I was nervous. Ten years ago in a previous job, which was at a party store company, I was in public relations/marketing/advertising and my main responsibilty was the PR part of it...I would fly to different states where we had stores and get on local tv talk shows and talked about "how to plan parties", or "how to uniquely wrap Christmas presents", or showed the trendy Halloween costumes. You would think that talking to a speaker phone wouldn't be nerve wracking for someone who use to do tv talkshows...but my stomache was tied up in knots. But it was fun and I think I did a good job - so I feel good and honored that they would let me do something like this.

So, here we are at Thursday...I will be leaving in a few minutes to pick up the boys from school and we are heading to the eye dr. Time for me to get a check up and there is a need for Robert to get checked out as a note from school said that he doesn't see very well.

Until next time, remember...

Trying Tuesday

I am up and going early this morning. Good practice for next week, when the boys' school schedule starts up for the new school year...which also means I will start back to my early work hours. Today, though, I will be going into work most of the day because my boss is in town from the UK for some quarterly meetings. While I will not be able to attend those meetings (which are Wednesday & Thursday), I am going in to meet with her and some of the other people who are in town this week. I am looking forward to it.

Yesterday I got my PS Exchange in the mail to my secret exchange partner - postal shop said that it would take about 10-14 days to get there, which would make arrive about the first week in September. Not bad, the mailing date was August 31 so I am well ahead of the deadline. It was a fun design to stitch...and I am very pleased with with finish. I hope that my partner likes it too. As soon as I get word of it's arrival I will photo the photos.

I have picked up a UFO - L*K "It's Expensive to be Me" - a design from the Girl Thing booklet. I am putting the finishing touches on it and then will probably set it aside while I determine how to finish it. I am thinking that this would make a good holiday gift for a family member :)

I have also started stitching another model for CindyMae Designs. She has figured out how to convert her graphs to pdf's and now is offering a downloaded version for a smaller price - and quicker gratification. So you might want to check out the redesign of her website.

Well, just stopped by to post a "hi"...off to get my blog reading and commenting done. Maybe I will be visiting you this morning :)
